Parking is not a major problem although some car parks can get very busy on a Saturday. To park in a city centre car park all day will cost around £6. You can also leave your car outside the city centre free, about a 5-10 minute walk away. Please be aware that some car parks shut in the early evening, before ringing is due to finish.
See the Dundee City Council parking map here. I would suggest the following car parks:
Number on map |
Name |
Notes |
28 |
Yeaman Shore |
Free after 6pm. |
29 |
Greenmarket |
Not sure if this closes in the evening |
25 |
Overgate |
Convenient for both towers, but closes around 7pm on Saturdays. Entry is from the Barrack Street/Bank Street junction (see map). |
10 |
Gellatly Street |
Evening parking £1. Daytime rates apply. |
19 |
DCA |
Open (free I think) in the evening. |
The location of the two towers - St Paul's is marked as 'Cath' between Castle Street and Commercial Street. The Old Steeple is marked as a prominent 'PWs' (Places of Worship) in the centre of the map, north west of Union Street.
If you want free parking, the car parks on the university campus are free at the weekend. You may ignore any prominent 'Permit Required' notices (read the small print if you are anxious!). There is a little-used (slightly muddy) car park to the *south* of Perth Road, near Greenmarket. See the university parking map here.
